For example: need to solve a problem in a class “some students talk to each other in class”
By using the method “6 thinking hats” so that students could focus on a problem with different aspects. You can use 6 different chalks of color instead of hats. All students have to give their opinions actively and teacher will control the discussion with the following steps:
1. WHITE: the facts and information
- Some students talk to each other when learning in class
- The conversations make other students to have difficulties listening teacher’s lecture.
- Students don’t know how to do.
- Most of students feel annoyed and bored.
2. RED: Emotions, feelings and intuition
- Some teachers felt offensive as listening noises in class
- It dampens student’s interest in learning
- Talkers have exciting gossips
- wasting time
- The lecture is non-benefit
- Some teachers feel offensive when students don’t want to listen what they taught.
- Disorder in class
4. YELLOW: positive points
- People have opportunity to talk anything they want.
- It is exciting
- Each student will not wait his or her turn to talk.
- All students may talk freely ( not only excellent students).
5. GREEN: creative ideas and solutions from the above problem
- Teacher will be aware of how long he or she teaches.
- Teacher will try to lead all students to express their points of view.
- All students will have to work in class, think of the lesson. Students will ask themselves “ what is related to the lesson?” and need to share ideas with other students or not? It is time for students to discuss on the topic.
- Should students interrupt other’s attention to the lecture in class?
- Teacher should give a report so as to evaluate students’ progress in the future.
6. BLUE: summarize the main ideas and opinions
- Teacher will know how long the lecture will happen to.
- Teacher needs to ask some questions to all students especially bad or average students who seldom express their thoughts or those who are passive for lessons
- the teacher has to give students time to absorb topic before discussing. The moment for student to ponder is very important
- Students will understand “ talking freely in class” that makes someone annoyed and distracted.
- Students will understand that little noise is enough to offense to others.
- Students will understand that making a noise any time will be mindless behaviors
- Teacher and students should review previous lessons and reports.
